Vineyard description : Bien Nacido has the distinction of being one of the major viticultural nurseries in the state for certified, varietal budwood. Most of the vines were originally from stock grown by the University of California at Davis. While the average increase block in California is less than 10 acres, Planted 37 years ago, the Bien Nacido Vineyard is one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in the region, consisting of over 800 acres of planted vines. The maritime-influenced climate is conducive to growing the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the state.
Winemaking Info :16-day maceration into open top tank, daily punch down and few pumping over, only free-run juice. Full malolactic fermentation. Gravity pumped into a combination of 1/2 new Dargeau & Jaegle and 1/2 used François Frères for 13 months.
Wine Description : Aromas of raspberry compote and sweet spices are mirrored on the palate, which is round, lush and mouth-filling. Flavors of mixed-berry jam, bing cherries and baking spices are lifted by bright acidity. The red fruits linger on the finish, accented by a note of toasted brioche.
Aging Capacity : 5 to 7 years.
Food Pairing : Pairs nicely with Speck wrapped duck breast on bed of cracked barley and pearl onions. Arctic char on creamed arugula pesto potatoes. hard goats cheeses, semi-aged cheddar.
